But they could be overlooking the simplest way to boost mental and physical wellness, as where we live heavily influences our overall health and happiness.

A new study has unveiled the greatest places in the world for wellbeing after analysing 40 of the biggest cities on the quality of life they have to offer.

In order to discern which global spots should fall where in the list, the cities were scored on eight categories: green space, annual hours of sunshine, happiness, work-life balance, traffic congestion and governance.

With Scandinavia dubbed the happiest place to live year-after-year, it comes as no surprise to see the Nordics rule once more.

Oslo, Norway

Oslo stole the top spot as the world’s best city for wellness, largely courtesy of the fact that 68% of the capital’s public space comprises of lush parks and gardens.

Helsinki followed closely behind at number three with Stockholm coming in at number six.

The rest of the top 10 was largely dominated by European cities with Vienna (four), Madrid (five) and Amsterdam (eight) also making the cut.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

But Australia pulled through with Sydney bagging a well-earned seventh spot all thanks to its 2,592 hours-worth of sunshine ever year (that’s enough to put a smile on anyone’s face).

The city was also ranked number three for green space with 46% of land utilised as parks and gardens.

Melbourne also earned a place on the list at number 11 beating Berlin, Toronto and Seoul to the spot.
